Marimar Pérez-Riera, Esq., is a seasoned legal and financial professional with extensive experience in international banking, financial regulation, and economic development. She currently serves as the General Counsel and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Jurissa International Bank, an International Financial Entity (IFE) specializing in litigation finance, and as Corporate Secretary of Jurissa Financial Holdings. She is also a board member of Geneva Insurance Holdings Ltd., overseeing financial strategy and governance in the international insurance sector.
Her leadership extends to her role on the Harvard Business School Alumni Board of Directors, where she works to strengthen alumni engagement and professional networks. Additionally, she previously served as Chairman of the Board of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA), where she played a pivotal role in hedging strategies for the purchasing of crude, ensuring financial stability amid volatile energy markets. Earlier in her career, she was also Treasurer of the Government Development Bank for Puerto Rico, managing multi-billion-dollar investment portfolios and overseeing key fiscal strategies for the island.
In addition to her corporate and financial leadership, Marimar is the Executive Director of the Puerto Rico International Banks Association (PRIBA) and the Puerto Rico International Insurers Association (PRIIA), where she advocates for policies that support Puerto Rico’s international financial sector. Her expertise in governance and regulatory matters has made her a trusted advisor in financial services, working closely with industry leaders and policymakers.
Beyond her professional commitments, Marimar founded the Asociación de Titulares de Condominios de Puerto Rico, a non-profit organization with over 4,000 members dedicated to defending condominium titleholders’ rights against homeowners' associations. She has successfully litigated numerous cases on behalf of condominium titleholders, achieving landmark victories, including a precedent-setting win before the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico. Recognized as a formidable litigator, her courtroom successes have solidified her as one of the most influential voices in Puerto Rico’s condominium law landscape. Her passion for advocating for titleholders' rights began with her own entrepreneurial venture as the developer of a 13-story residential condominium in San Juan, where she experienced firsthand the challenges of condominium governance. This endeavor fueled her commitment to ensuring fair treatment for property owners and improving the legal framework surrounding condominium ownership.
She is also a regular contributor to El Nuevo Día’s Opinion section and Microjuris, writing on condominium law and broader legal issues. Additionally, she serves as a continuing education resource for other attorneys, providing professional training in property law and regulatory compliance.
Marimar earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Yale University, followed by a Master in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Harvard Business School. She later pursued her Juris Doctor at the University of Puerto Rico Law School, graduating magna cum laude.
